Whether you're planning a house extension, a loft conversion, or both, Alozie Architects provides a full planning and building control service in one place — led personally by Alozie Nwankwo, a RIBA Chartered Architect with over 25 years of experience delivering residential projects across South London, Ghana and Nigeria.

As a local architect for extensions and loft conversions, we've achieved a high planning approval rate across more than 80 recent projects handled across South London boroughs, and every project runs on a clear fixed fee agreement, so you know the full cost of design, planning and building regulations services from the outset — no separate quotes for Permitted Development advice, Lawful Development Certificate applications, or Building Control drawings.

Loft Conversions

Alongside extensions, we provide loft conversion design, planning and building regulations services, including:

Rear Dormer Conversions

The most popular loft conversion type, adding a box-shaped extension to the rear roof slope for maximum headroom and floor space.

Hip-to-Gable Roof Extensions

Extending a sloped "hip" roof end into a vertical gable wall — ideal for semi-detached and detached homes with hipped roofs.

Front-Facing Velux Rooflights

The simplest and most affordable option, adding rooflights to the existing roof slope without altering its shape.

Our Process

Every project starts with a free initial consultation, either at your property or our London studio in Morden. From there we carry out a feasibility study, develop concept designs, and guide you through planning permission or Permitted Development confirmation. Once designs are approved, we prepare full Building Control drawings with structural calculations, and remain involved through to project completion — all within your agreed fixed fee.

Recent Projects

Our Garden Studio project in Sutton, Surrey and House Extension in Wimbledon, London are recent examples of our residential extension and loft conversion work — see the full portfolio for more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does planning permission take for an extension or loft conversion?

Planning applications are usually decided within 8 weeks, the standard timeframe for householder applications. We handle the application directly with your local council from submission through to decision.

Do I need planning permission, or can I use Permitted Development rights?

It depends on the scale and position of the works. We provide Permitted Development Rights advice and can handle Lawful Development Certificate applications where your project qualifies, or a full planning application where it doesn't.

What does the fixed fee service include?

Our fixed fee agreement covers full design, planning and building regulations services in one place, including full Building Control drawings with structural calculations, so there are no surprise costs as your project progresses.

What is a Lawful Development Certificate?

A Lawful Development Certificate is formal written confirmation from your local council that a building project is lawful under Permitted Development rights and doesn't require planning permission. It's useful for peace of mind and when selling a property with an existing extension or loft conversion.
